Types of Hyaluronic Acid

Differences and properties of different types of hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid is a substance of natural origin, found in our body and widely used in aesthetic medicine and cosmetology. There are three types of hyaluronic acid, categorized based on the length of the polysaccharide chains that make up the acid molecule, which in turn affects its properties.

Low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid penetrates deep into the layers of the epidermis but cannot retain a large amount of moisture. Its superpower lies in stimulating the production of hyaluronic acid in the body and acting as a preventive measure against dehydration, but it is not effective against medium to deep wrinkles.

Medium-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid also easily penetrates the skin but cannot reach the deep layers. However, it effectively moisturizes the upper layers, smoothens fine lines, and alleviates dryness.

High-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid cannot penetrate the layers of the epidermis, but its large molecules efficiently retain water molecules, helping to smooth and hydrate the skin.
